Wiley Fosters Excellence in Chemistry Research with Annual 'Young Chemist Award'

NewswireToday - /newswire/ - Singapore, Singapore, 07/14/2008 - Three outstanding researchers have been selected as the recipients of the fifth annual "Young Chemist Award".

Global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc (NYSE: JWa), (NYSE: JWb), announced today that three outstanding researchers have been selected as the recipients of the fifth annual “Young Chemist Award", which Wiley organizes in conjunction with the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS). The Chinese Chemical Society is one of the founding partners of Chemistry -- An Asian Journal, published by Wiley.

The award announcement was made at the opening ceremony of 26th Chinese Chemical Congress in Tianjin, China.

Dr. Zhangjie Shi from the Peking University, Dr. Shu-Li You from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Chinese Academy of Science and Dr. Chun-an Hong from the Chinese Science & Technology University at Hefei were named as this year's award winners.

Sponsored by Wiley and now into its fifth year, this award was created to recognize and promote the development of young talent in the field of chemistry. In addition, it also serves to foster research excellence in chemistry publishing, and acknowledges the contributions of the Chinese chemistry community to Wiley’s continuing success in China.

“The rigorous award criteria and high caliber of the chemists who serve as judges ensure that the ‘Young Chemist Award’ gives the best and the brightest in their fields the recognition that they are due from their peers for research accomplishments," said Dr. Eva Elisabeth Wille, Wiley’s Vice President & Executive Director, Physical Sciences, Chemistry.

Wiley’s Vice-President & Managing Director for Physical Sciences, Mr. Steven Miron, added, “China is rapidly becoming a global leader in the field chemistry. This award recognizes the valuable contributions of young Chinese chemists to the field and reflects Wiley’s commitment to bringing China’s top scientific and scholarly research content to a global audience. We would like to thank our partners in this important endeavor, the Chinese Chemical Society."

Media wishing to schedule interview with the recipients of the Wiley Young Chemist Award, or who would like more information should contact Alina Boey, Senior Manager Corporate Communications or call.
