This sponsorship is vital in securing a capital grant from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, which the co-educational grammar school will use to develop three new humanities classrooms and a library that it will make available to its own students and hopes to use on some exciting collaborative projects with local schools.
“To become a specialist humanities college, we needed to prove our credentials as a centre of excellence and show we have plans that will benefit the local community,” said headmaster Philip Wayne. “We also needed financial support, and I am very grateful to Chesham Building Society for its generous contribution.”
Paul Kilbride, chief executive of Chesham Building Society, said, “It is important to our members that we support local causes, including charities and other organisations, and as a local mutual building society we are more than happy to oblige. We share the school’s commitment to our local community and for that reason are proud to give them our support.”
Chesham Building Society encourages and supports projects, programmes and activities that strengthen the communities in which its employees and members live and work, and those that sustain and improve its local environment. In the last year Chesham Building Society has also supported Bucks Garden Trust, the PACE Centre, Chiltern Citizens Advice Bureau, Ian Rennie Hospice at Home, the Hospice of St Francis and Florence Nightingale Hospice.
As a mutual organisation, Chesham Building Society's commitment to consumers is its priority. It has no external shareholders to pay, so it can use its profits to offer competitive interest rates to its members. This is the unique benefit that consumers get when they belong to a building society.
Because of its responsible lending policies, Chesham Building Society has one of the lowest mortgage arrears rates in the industry. It has branches in Chesham, Aylesbury and Little Chalfont, and provides funding and active support to charities and good causes in the local area.
Chesham High School is a co-educational grammar school of approximately 1250 pupils, of whom 360 are in the sixth form. It is proud to offer the traditional qualities of a grammar school, combined with the most modern resources and curriculum.
