MVA Scientific Consultants’ recent trip to Ulm, Germany has yielded yet another coup for the Georgia-based microscopy firm. Following on the heels of the Firm’s recent alliance with a UK based Nano Testing Manufacturer, MVA Scientific Consultants has now developed a strategic alliance with WITec Inc.-- a German-based manufacturer of high performance optical and scanning instrumentation for scientific and industrial applications. The new alliance was announced during the Mid-Winter meeting of the American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL) in Washington D.C.
As part of their alliance, MVA Scientific Consultants will serve as the official North American Demonstration and Support site for WITec’s new Confocal Raman Microscope, which offers the unique ability to acquire high-resolution chemical information in a non-destructive way. The move makes MVA Scientific Consultants one of the first commercial laboratories in the U.S. with the new instrument. It is expected that a number of science and technology leaders from across the country will visit the Firm’s facilities in Georgia to learn more about the instrument and its applications.
“We believe the instrument and related techniques will complement those that we already maintain in-house”, says Senior Research Scientist and Executive Director Mary A. Miller. “It will expand our service capability and will prove useful with polymers and thin films, geological/environmental applications and general materials science,” Miller added.
The deal with WITec is similar to the one the Firm has developed with Micro Materials of Wrexham, UK. Announced in November, that alliance designated MVA Scientific Consultants as the US Demonstration and Support site for Micro Material’s new Nano-Test- the first commercial instrument in the US used for the surface characterization of materials at the nano-scale level--about 100,000th the width of a human hair.
“Our strategic alliances in Europe puts us in the forefront of the latest in microanalytical technologies that will help us help our clients especially in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries,” says Dr. Tim Vander Wood, Managing Director at the Firm. “It’s just another example of our commitment to our clients and to broadening the scope of our capabilities”.
