Not only will this single revolutionize the R&B music genre but this group’s music will leave an everlasting affect in any R&B music fanatic. Using the combined musical role models of the group’s members in addition to the Harlem Renaissance/Jazz Age inspiration from which their group name is derived, 1920 brings a historical approach to its tone while truly defining the re-evolution of real R&B music.
Emerging music producer Seneca Fittedtrax (Yo Gotti, Patti Labelle, etc) envisioned this new genre of an R&B group during his visit to Atlanta in 2006. While working in the studio with his mentor Super Producer Manuell Seal (right hand to Jermaine Dupri’s biggest hits) and Usher, Seneca was impelled to begin a new approach in music. After realizing that every R&B group was practically the same combination of attractive males, some mediocre singing, and some shabby dancing mixed with some assorted monotonous slow jams, Seneca knew this cut-and-dry recipe needed a new flavor. So, he and his partner/music producer Reign Marlon Smith began their quest of creating a band that would bring back the emotion and the true image of the poetic vibe in R&B music. This new recipe included a cutting edge flavor, sprinkled with a dash of hood soul, and topped off with aggressive R&B sounds, but take out the ordinary I-want-you-back slow jams, and the result is 1920.
The first member definitely was not far from reach. Danairo, 24, is the younger brother of Seneca’s close friend. Danairo’s brother, Brendan, immediately contacted Seneca upon his relocation from Chicago to St. Louis in 2007 to inform Seneca about Danairo’s strong vocal ability. After sweeping Seneca away with his singing, Danairo officially became the first member of 1920. Nick Jay, 21, was the next member to follow the line-up. The Springfield, Illinois native was an old mutual friend of Seneca who arrived in his home studio in 2006. The next year, Seneca reached out to Nick about his envisioned R&B group. The third member J’st Bryan, 27, became the last group member of 1920 in October 2007. His extensive background in the music industry from opening up for various artists such as Chingy, Nelly, Bobby Valentino and Rick Ross to winning BET’s Wild Out Wednesdays in 2006 brings the final ingredient that the group needed to complete this winning recipe.
The sky is definitely the limit for 1920. They are the only R&B creating a major buzz in St. Louis right now and already have proven to be a hit by reigning the championship title during the “Battle of the Beats” contest at St. Louis hottest Radio-One station 104.1 several months ago with their debut single “My Computer Love.” Their music recreates the times when black performers finally received their credit, and it showcases a poetic soulful vibe. This is just the beginning an R&B revolution.
