The Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) recently published a new standard for ultrasonic dry film thickness gages entitled SSPC-PA 9, Measurement of Dry Coating Thickness on Cementitious Substrates Using Ultrasonic Gages.
Similar to PA 2, one of the most widely used SSPC standards, PA 9 addresses a popular new method of testing the thickness of coatings on concrete using ultrasound. It describes procedures for calibration, adjustment and general use of instruments such as the PosiTector 200 as described in ASTM D6132 and focuses on the correct method for taking measurements.
Described procedures include criteria for determining the number of measurements, location of measurements, and whether the dry film thickness (DFT) of the coating conforms to project specifications.
The ruggedly simple and affordable PosiTector 200 is available with either Standard or Advanced features and your choice of two measuring ranges. New features include extended range probes, large impact-resistant Lexan® display, IP5X ingress protection and protective rubber holster. Conforms to ASTM D6132, SSPC-PA 9 and ISO 2808.
