Kaminski Auctions’ May Fine Art and Estates Auction, held May 31 under the tent at Kaminski Auctions in Beverly, offered an impressive array of antiques, collectibles, furniture and decorative accessories. Enthusiastic auction-goers enjoyed beautiful weather at this outdoor auction, which featured consignments from estates in California, Massachusetts and beyond. (All prices reflect a 15% buyers premium)

Asian art dominated the sale, with a Chinese carved stone figure, estimated $1,000 - $2,000, realizing $5,750. The figure stands 50” tall, aided by a 9” stone base. A Japanese metal charger from the Meiji period also wowed attendees. The charger is composed of gold, silver, copper and bronze and bears a signature on its reverse side. The Meiji period, which spanned 1868 - 1912, occurred during the restored rule of the eponymous emperor. This important piece more than tripled its original high estimate, reaching an astounding $16,100.

Decorative arts were also in demand at the May auction. A Grueby Pottery vase with a bud and leaf pattern and butterscotch glaze fetched $6,325. Produced between 1894 and 1909, Grueby Pottery is highly collectible and played a significant role in the Arts and Crafts pottery movement. The vase, consigned from an estate in Milton, Massachusetts, stands 6.5” tall and is signed and numbered.

A Christofle clock drew much attention, realizing $13,800. Established in 1830, the French manufacturer Christofle specializes in fine decorative accessories and has produced works by well-known artists, architects and designers like Man Ray, Jean Cocteau, Gio Ponti and Richard Hutten. This bronze and malachite clock hailed from an estate in West Hollywood.

Additional decorative works included a pair of 19th Century continental figural compotes. The compotes, marked 800 silver, each stand 15.5” inches tall, with a total weight of 188 ozt. These ornate pieces realized a final price of $16,100.

A pair of 19th century French candelabra reached $11,500. These figural candelabra, made of bronze with ormolu accents, each depict a winged female holding two wreaths. The pair was consigned from a West Hollywood estate.

“It’s always a thrill to introduce West Coast consignments at our East Coast auctions,” comments Frank Kaminski, owner of Kaminski Auctions. “Our bi-coastal status allows us to offer a full range of antiques and fine art from estates across the country.”
