Once nicknamed ‘The man who hired the world’, Mel is now semi-retired and has decided to part with his treasured archive of mirrors and plaques. 991.com, the world leader in online music memorabilia, has been enlisted to help him find good homes for his collection.
Each item is accompanied by a signed letter on headed paper from the great man himself, stating its origins and confirming its authenticity.
Mel promoted such infamous concerts as Bowie's Aladdin Sane tour (where Ziggy 'retired'), Queen’s first two tours; in ’73 they were support act to Mott The Hoople, in ’74 they headlined, not to mention the now legendary Led Zeppelin concert at Earls Court.
His roster of artists reads like a music industry who’s who? The Osmonds, Phil Collins, Elton John, Bad Company, A-ha, The Jam, Paul McCartney & Wings, Wham, Slade and Status Quo to name just a few.
Once a successful tour or concert was over Mel would commission a commemorative plaque or mirror as a ‘thank you’. Only a few of each design were produced and usually presented to the artist or band, with an additional archive copy personally kept my Mel.
