Austin's favorite musical sweethearts, Wendy Colonna and Erin Ivey, join forces with Chad Pope for two very special shows in June. Colonna and Pope return to central Texas after two months of touring the U.S., while Ivey is on her way to Zambia, Africa for the month of July.
Venues were chosen for their excellent acoustics, to underscore a memorable evening of award-winning music ranging from gritty Louisiana blues to ethereal vocal pop.
About Wendy Colonna - "This fiery beauty has a voice that ranges from gravel to nightengale" (Goleta Valley Voice, CA) Wendy Colonna may live in Austin these days, but one listen to her soulful vocals and her south Louisiana roots are obvious. Colonna grew up in Lake Charles and her music is a spicy stick-to-your-ribs Gulf Coast gumbo of soul and blues and funk. The first time I heard Colonna I thought of another sultry southern country soul singer, the great Rita Coolidge. But Colonna is hardly a one-trick pony, and even a cursory listen to her albums Red and Where I Belong reveals a complex vocalist reminiscent of a bevy of important female artists: the brash bluesy thing of Bonny Raitt, the pop genius of Carole King, the raw emotion and huge pipes of Joan Osborne, and the soul shout of Queen Aretha. It’s this kind of talent that brought Colonna acclaim as KGSR Radio’s new artist of 2005 and brings out A-list Austin players like Guy Forsyth and Shelley King when she records.
About Erin Ivey - "Sweet folk pop reminiscent of Soko and Yael Naim... Enjoy the deliciousness." (Perez Hilton) With fans and journalists singing her praises, Ivey has released 2 EPs and 1 full-length album in the past year, performing for audiences nationwide. Her latest release, the Sweet Little EP, is dipped in operatic and country-western influences, but completely centered around the voice that prompted one journalist to write, "I would kill for a purr like that." (Luciana Lopez, The Oregonian)
About Chad Pope - "A third-generation Texas musician with true talent through and through." (Mark Fradl) Chad Pope is a born and bred Third Generation Texas Musician. His grandfather, "Cotton" Pope played trumpet with legendary artists Boots Randolph and Porter Wagoner and his father, Randy Pope, blew harp with James Taylor and John Belushi. Chad continues to uphold the family legacy as a guitarist and singer/songwriter.
Chad was raised in Ft Woth and as a child he would accompany his father to his shows in the area. He was a foster child of the family of legendary Ft Worth blues musicians like Robert Ely and Tudy Taddi in the 80's.
Chad cut his teeth playing guitar for God in the Pentecostal Church. His career took another direction when he began touring with honky tonk queen, Miss Molly at the age of 20. He's been playin that same spirited and soulful guitar in bars, honky tonks across the US and Europe ever since. His Ft Worth Blues project "Hot Cotton" toured TX and Europe between 2001 and 2007. He's also played guitar with Beth Garner, Wendy Colonna and in several other projects since. Currently, Chad is writing material for a solo release, co-writing and touring with Wendy Colonna.
