The company, which has its UK roots in Brighton, will be selecting an artist from the Artists Open Houses (AOH) roster to nurture throughout the year, providing exhibition space and support to the artists’ development. Furthermore, iCrossing will also give the artist the opportunity to exhibit a range of work in its Brighton and London offices, visited regularly by clients such as Virgin, HBOS and Channel 4.
Judging involved 10 iCrossing staff visiting the first 20 open houses on the shortlist and will culminate in the awards night which will take place on June 19th at the new Myhotel in Brighton.
AOH in Brighton will showcase more than 220 venues and over 1,000 artists in a unique way this month, giving around 300,000 people a rare opportunity to view art exhibited in the homes and studios of Brighton & Hove artists.
There is a vast range of work from painting to sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, furniture, jewellery, stained glass, furnishings and textiles. As well as their own work, local artists also have guest exhibitors and visitors have the chance to buy recent work before it reaches the galleries.
AOH, winner of Best Cultural Event in the 2007 Brighton & Hove Business Awards, is open for four weekends in May and for two weekends leading up to Christmas. It is the largest open house event in the UK, focussing on Brighton itself and with open house trails extending to the surrounding countryside.
Arjo Ghosh, chief executive officer of iCrossing in the UK comments: “iCrossing is delighted to be supporting the outstanding creativity in Brighton and Sussex, which underlines our commitment to the local community. Artists Open Houses help to make Brighton and Hove a vibrant and exciting city to work and live in.
“I have been passionate about bringing together the very best of creativity and business in as many ways possible since founding Spannerworks, now iCrossing, in Brighton 11 years ago. We feel that the arts offer skills and benefits to the businesses community, and to illustrate this we are extending our sponsorship by launching the iCrossing Award, which will be given to an exhibiting artist from the Open Houses.”
Rhoda Barker, press officer at AOH comments: “This level of support for the cultural community in Brighton & Hove really helps artists to continue their creative development and find a showcase that extends beyond this month. We truly appreciate iCrossing’s valuable input and thank them for their ongoing support.”
