More than 7 million people in the Baltimore-Washington region live in areas that exceed the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) standards for ground-level ozone and particle pollution. Those most at risk are “sensitive groups” including children, older adults, and those with heart and lung conditions. These groups may experience greater health effects when the air quality reaches unhealthy levels at “Code Orange” and above.
Antek HealthWare and Clean Air Partners, a non-profit, public-private partnership committed to improving air quality in the Baltimore-Washington region for the past 10 years, have partnered to raise awareness about the health and environmental effects of poor air quality. Many of the voluntary actions Clean Air Partners encourages the public to take not only reduce ground-level ozone and particle pollution, but also have a direct effect on reducing greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, which contribute to climate change.
