The Laconia, New Hampshire rally has deep roots in racing and is considered the oldest rally in the country. The Loudon Classic is the longest running race in the U.S. This year marks the 85th year for the rally that draws 300,000 to 400,000 motorcyclists.
New England Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Dealers Association sponsors the annual dirt-track races, which this year include the 16th Annual Ben Campanale Laconia 1/2 mile on Friday, June 13th in Rochester, followed by a short track race at Jolly Rogers on Saturday night and another short track race in Canaan on Sunday to round out the first weekend of Laconia Motorcycle Week.
"Ken Coolbeth on his Harley-Davidson XR 750 will be back to defend his title along with many rivals looking to beat the King of Cool on his own turf! It should be a great race," said Pete Giammalvo of Sideways Promotions, who has been promoting the races since day one, 16 years ago.
The Laconia rally continues through June 22nd.
"Destinations to ride, great times and great friends are the backbone of rallies," said Giammalvo. "You will find that in Laconia thanks in a big part to the area's Harley-Davidson dealerships, who support the races, demo rides and many other special events.
