Technology and security at Heartland Information Services just got better. The medical transcription firm located in Toledo, Ohio has successfully begun to integrate to a single technology platform – GEMSTAR – for all areas of its business, delivering security, quality and speed at even higher levels.
After merging with Spryance in 2006, Heartland operated under two distinct platforms – GEMSTAR and SpryForce – both of which offered a different range of capabilities and processes. Utilizing the GEMSTAR platform only, each of Heartland’s customers has access to all available features and monitoring functionalities, including GEMSTAR’s workflow management software Tracker Plus™, which allows Heartland’s customers to track transcription jobs in real time and reconcile invoices right on their computer screen. These benefits allow for greater workflow capabilities, standardization of data management and tracking and better controls for quality management.

The platform integration will also improve the security of Protected Health Information (PHI) business-wide by:
• Having an ability to perform in-depth risk analysis.
• Implementing security reminders.
• Adopting and implementing procedures for timely reporting of security incidents.
• Establishing and implementing procedures to create and maintain data backups.
• Establishing procedures to restore lost data and continue business processes while operating in emergency mode.
• Implementing ability to encrypt and decrypt e-PHI and corroborate that information has not been altered or destroyed.
In addition to implementing a more standardized business-wide platform, Heartland is also focused on expanding other areas of its transcription technology.
