A mentoring program geared toward youth between the ages of 15 – 19, YCEMP provides selected students with employability skills training, career exploration, and mentoring opportunities.
TekTegrity recently hosted Pacific Beach High School students Marley Gann and Tatiana Vine to introduce them to the IT business world at their San Luis Obispo location. Their session included a tour of the office, a demonstration on web page design and graphics, finance management, office networking, and technical support systems. Gann and Vine also had an opportunity to interview TekTegrity employees about how they got their start with the company. “There was so much information to take in, and the people at TekTegrity were amazing,” said Vine. When YCEMP Program Coordinator, Carol Armstrong, asked TekTegrity founders Russ Levanway and Jeremy Koellish to participate in the job shadow program they readily agreed. “We welcomed the opportunity to work with these students,” explained Koellish. The twelve week YCEMP program runs twice a year, once in the fall and spring. Students spend the first six weeks attending workshops and then six weeks visiting one of six career site locations.
Levanway and Koellish believe community involvement is essential on both a personal and a professional level. TekTegrity also helps the youth of the community by refurbishing and donating computers and providing technology support to local schools.
