Mobileye-AWS 4000 is a unique driver assistance camera system. The technology combines three warning systems in one compact, easy to use unit; Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Headway Monitoring Warning.
The innovative technology can alert drowsy or inattentive drivers for the need to take a break. Many drivers fail to heed common warnings such as yawning according to a ‘You Gov’ poll of British drivers which found only 18% always take a yawn as a sign to pull over. The Department for Transport found 20% of all crashes on major roads are caused by tired drivers, so this new technology is a positive step forward to reducing this statistic.
Mobileye is also an ideal tool for fleet operators who want to re-train a driver's way of thinking in terms of safety and best practice, altering behaviour to prevent practices such as tailgating and failing to signal.
Land Departure Warning alerts the driver if he unintentionally leaves his lane without signalling. A visual warning on the display highlights which direction the vehicle is veering towards. An audio warning resembling a hard shoulder rumble strip also warns the driver to his lack of attention.
Studies across America and Europe have found that installing lane departure warning can reduce lane departure collisions by up to 65%. By reminding a driver to signal when leaving a lane, or warning him when he unintentionally begins to leave the lane, many lives could be saved and many more collisions prevented.
Headway Monitoring encourages a driver to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. The visual display shows an image of varying colours, (red, amber or green) depending on the safe distance of the driver to the vehicle in front and depicts the distance in seconds.
According to a survey by the RAC 70% of drivers tailgate or drive too closely to the vehicle in front and research by the Highways Agency found that tailgating contributed to 29% of all injury collisions on the UK’s motorways. By teaching drivers to maintain a safe driving distance many accidents could be prevented.
Forward collision Warning alerts a driver up to 2.7 seconds prior to collision, providing drivers with the valuable time to react. In a Volkswagen study, it was found that 85% of drivers in serious collisions either did not brake at all or not to the full possible deceleration.
Mobileye is an advanced warning system designed to enhance driving behaviour and safety, saving costly damage and insurance costs and ultimately saving lives.
