A reception for Scenery by Soprano will be held Friday, May 16, 2008 from 5 to 9pm. The event is free and there will be wine and food. There will be new landscapes paintings by well-known local artist Judy Soprano. The show runs until June 27th.
Educated at S.U.N.Y. at Brockport, Judy still stays active in the Finger Lakes art community by teaching and belonging to such organizations such as Central New York Watercolor Society, Rochester Art Club, and the Suburban Rochester Art Group.
New artwork such as oil paintings of grapes and a picturesque barn by the lake is causing a stir of excitement among art goers. “Judy’s paintings are always alive,” Aimee Ward says, from Finger Lakes Gallery and Frame. “She has quite a following.” The gallery is happy to bring the artist back by popular demand.
The warmth of Judy Soprano’s paintings can be seen all along the east coast, from Upstate New York, to Florida, including Nan Miller Gallery, Long Lake Gallery, West End Gallery, and Sea Oates Gallery. Her work has been called “scenic poetry”, with landscape scenes including barns, trees, and other picturesque views. She also implements unique but clever uses of shadows in her paintings. Born in Rochester, she spent most of her childhood experiencing nature, training her to be an artist. She has been quoted saying, “I opened the door to creativity and found my soul.”
