Fludicon, leading provider of active mecatronic components based on the use of electro-rheological fluids (ERF), today announced the acquisition of ERF Production Wurzburg GmbH, leading developer and producer of electro-rheologic fluids, and part of the Neue Materialien Expertise Center in Bavaria, Germany. The acquisition combines complementary assets by joining the unique ERF liquid production know-how and the ERF based mecatronic solutions for transportation, sport and medicine, and industrial customers.
ERF Produktion Wurzburg allows Fludicon to secure access in volume to world leading quality ERF fluids, smart fluids of which viscosity changes when exposed to an electrical field. Applied with Fludicon digital electronics and non linear control, they are an enabler for breakthrough mecatronic solutions. Among Fludicon first products, some active dampers for fitness machines that allow replacement of costly and voluminous systems.
“ERF Produktion Wurzburg unique know-how and unmatched performance in ERF fluids are a key to Fludicon components’ global deployments on the market” said Stefan Luber, Chief Executive Officer, Fludicon.
“With the addition of ERF Produktion and its team, Fludicon will be able to secure a solid production ramp up, and also to strengthen its longstanding value proposition to customers”.
“We are very excited to join Fludicon,” said Martin Gurka, former leader of the Active Composites Department of Neue Materialien Wurzburg, who joins Fludicon as Vice President of Materials Production. “The combination of the ERF development and applied solutions for end-customers is a unique fit to deliver full solutions and make ERF a natural choice for massive adoption in a number of applications where its customer value are very compelling, namely in the medicine and sport, transportation, and industry sectors.”
ERF PRoduktion Wurzburg has its operations in Wurzburg, Bavaria, and was formerly part of the Neue Materialien Group. Bavaria Minister of Economy Emilia Muller declared: “The world renowned High Tech cluster for materials in Bavaria was created in a few years and created some qualified jobs, showing the innovation potential in the area. We are glad of this further development.”
Fludicon (fludicon.com) develops, manufactures and sells active mecatronic components, based its proprietary electro rheological fluids (ERF). ERF fluids are smart materials of which viscosity instantly changes when exposed to a voltage, ranging from liquid to solid. Fludicon products deliver unique security, adaptative comfort and energy saving features to applications in the sport and medicine equipment, transportation, and industry markets. Spun off from Carl Schenck AG in 2001 and backed by investors including Munich Venture Partners, Schneider Electric Ventures, Fraunhofer Venturegruppe, KfW and TechnoStart, Fludicon is the first organization worldwide to bring ERF applications to an industrial production state.
