Austin, TX, United States, 2008/04/16 - Sevocity, a San Antonio-based EHR vendor, will offer the Austin-based SecureCare Technologies’ product, Sfax, the first EFR (electronic fax record) for health care, to its customer base of 250 physicians.
Currently, traditionally-licensed EHR (electronic health record) software implementation costs a typical physician $33,000 with an additional maintenance cost of roughly $1500 a month, explaining why only 16 percent of single physician practices have made the switch to electronic. Two Texas-based health information technology companies, Sevocity and SecureCare Technologies, have announced a partnership that will essentially eliminate the initial costs and behavioral burdens of implementing an EHR system for health care providers, allowing them to refocus efforts on affordable, quality patient care. Not only will the level of difficulty and initial costs associated with implementation decrease, the amount of paper used will virtually disappear.
Through the partnership, Sevocity, a San Antonio-based EHR vendor, will offer the Austin-based SecureCare Technologies’ product, Sfax, the first EFR (electronic fax record) for health care, to its customer base of 250 physicians. The addition of Sfax to Sevocity’s services truly enables a paperless office for Sevocity’s clientele. Typically with EHRs, users still must scan paper documents and records incoming from outside of the office, close to 80 percent of which are transmitted via manual faxing methods. Because most patient health documents are faxed in already, the union of Sfax and Sevocity technologies allows for a paper-free environment, eliminating the common occurrence of lost and misplaced medical records.
Sevocity is immediately deploying Sfax to existing customers and offering it as a part of the Sevocity EHR solution to future ones. Physicians and their staff on average fax approximately 1000 pages a month, dedicating valuable amounts of time towards paper processes rather than patient care. With the addition of Sfax, customers no longer have to scan or process faxed documents except electronically through Sfax, which saves them up to 95 percent of the time and up to 80 percent of the costs over manual faxing methods.
“This partnership is a great synergy, with huge benefits accruing to both parties as well as to the health care community,” said SecureCare CEO, Dennis Nasto. “The addition of Sfax gives Sevocity a competitive advantage over other EMR and EHR vendors as the company now has the ability to offer customers a complete electronic fax record with digital signature, annotation features and web-based fax storage. On our end, Sevocity’s roll-out of Sfax completely validates the SecureCare business model of delivering Sfax through channel partners who then sell it as an integrated or add-on module to their existing software platforms. With a total of 250 Sevocity clients, we believe that the majority, if not all of them, will integrate Sfax into their daily routines. This could translate to up to 250,000 fax pages converting to digital every month.”
Both Sevocity and SecureCare strive to ease the integration of electronic-based record systems in health care, working as great complements to each other and utilizing the Internet for secure transfer and access of medical and health records. Sevocity is an Internet-based, easy-to-use, electronic charting system that enables physicians to document patient encounters, allowing access to the records in real time from anywhere with an Internet connection. Similarly, Sfax is offered in the popular delivery model of Software-as-a-Service, allowing users to rapidly implement it online within any health care enterprise. Both models lower upfront investment and maintenance costs as there is no software, hardware or infrastructure purchase. Sfax and Sevocity operate on HIPAA-ready platforms, delivering users and patients the utmost level of security.
Sevocity empowers health centers and physician practices to embrace electronic health records (EHRs) by providing easy-to-use, Internet-based EHR and practice management solutions. Sevocity EHR is an application service provider (ASP) product that eliminates expensive upfront capital expenditures and ongoing maintenance costs.
