Consumers are waking up to the fact that green is in. And entrepreneurs are becoming ecopreneurs by starting businesses that cater to the eco-business angle. Entrepreneur Magazine reports, “Even Wal-Mart sells organic cotton T-shirts these days, but you definitely don't have to be a retailing behemoth to take your business in a green or organic direction. In fact, entrepreneurs have an advantage when it comes to reaching customers who care about the cause as well as the products.” Entrepreneur magazine even awarded their “$100,000 For Your Business” award to a green business in 2007.
One company that is in the green business has created a new report, “2008 Green Eco-Business Start-Up Resources Report.” MediaGoGreen has been helping companies by offering new start-ups e-mail addresses for newspaper reporters that have already written stories about the environment, eco and green. They were asked to help entrepreneurs on how to join one of the fastest growing business segments, green and eco-business.
The trend is being talked about on the evening news and being reported constantly in newspapers and magazines. MediaPost Publications reports, "Gen Y and the Millennials are really driving this trend," says Barbie M. Casasus, senior director and consumer strategist at Iconoculture, based in Minneapolis, adding that 20-to-28-year-olds represent about $520 billion in buying power and say they are willing to pay more for organic and fair-trade products." And they're pretty passionate about it. While it's a category that is still in its infancy, the demand is growing."
At their website, mediagogreen.org, they offer the start-up guide with ideas on successful green businesses such as green gifts, green weddings, cleaning business and products, organic skin care, selling green items at craft fairs and more.
According to Murray Anderson, founder of MediaGoGreen, “It used to be people that cared about the environment were viewed as extreme and had a sky is falling mentality. Today, thankfully, the majority of worldwide citizens are discovering the real importance in looking for all ways to help preserve and save our environment.”
The media is taking the environment seriously, and they are reporting on environmental, green and eco-issues all over the world. People are replacing light bulbs in their homes, buying hybrid vehicles and shutting off lights when they leave a room. Anderson adds, “In our research, we even found one wedding consultant that uses recycled linens for the reception tables, and then gives the linens to guests as they leave, for them to use as a wrap to take to the beach. Now that is recycling! And it is an ingenious business idea. That is what we are encouraging. People need to think outside the box to help save the environment.” Anderson is also a partner in the distribution of the first eco-friendly bottled water packaging. Both of his companies are very busy and it is a double pay-off when you think about the awareness that each new green company can bring about the environment.
As well as major corporations, small business, inventors and entrepreneurs are seeking opportunities to serve customers in a new way. Many opportunities are arising for new businesses in many fields. Their website, mediagogreen.org reports, “Our Company constantly researches all aspects of green, eco and environmental news, press releases, company profiles and blogs. We have compiled the most complete Resource Report of opportunities for new green businesses."
