RedMere Technology, a leading innovator in semiconductor solutions for ultra low power interconnect announced the world’s first High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) switch and repeater products to include integrated programmable CEC microcontroller and EDID memory at speeds up to 3.4Gbps. All switch and repeater products include RedMere’s Cable MagnifEye® equalization technology designed to recover signals over the full frequency range from non compliant or long cables offering an extremely robust solution to the TV manufacturer. Performance at the maximum HDMI operating speed of 3.4Gbps enables support for 1080p 16 bit deep color whereas the 2.25Gbps solution provides support for 1080p 12 bit color. High end audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD are supported.

These devices are highly integrated with on chip CEC Controller, EDID source memory, Active DDC and a HPD sequencer. These are the key features required to implement a fully CEC compliant design. The embedded CEC Phy and EDID memory eliminate the requirement for external devices such as CEC microcontroller and discrete EDID memories. Low Capacitance On chip ESD protection circuits ensure 8Kv is achieved at 3.4Gbps whilst eliminating the need for external ESD protection components.

The design focuses on minimizing HDTV system power consumption. Inactive switch input terminations are automatically disabled to reduce power. The ability of the RM1831 to provide an EDID to both active and inactive sources even in standby, together with the innovative CEC controller ensure seamless operation for the end user independent of whether the TV is in standby or active mode.

The three to one switches are available in a 64 LQFP Package and the one to one repeater devices are available in a 48 pin QFN. The switch and repeater products are as follows:
RM1831C: 3.4Gbps Three to One Switch
RM1731B: 2.25Gbps Three to One Switch
RM1811C: 3.34Gbps One to One Repeater
