Bowie Castlebank trades under the Klick Photopoint and Max Speilmann retail brand names in the photo processing market. The rapid move in the marketplace from film to digital cameras found Bowie Castlebank with many strengths but a distinct weakness in the flexibility of its training to cope in the rapidly moving environment. Utilising rapid e-learning tools from Atlantic Link, the company has deployed e-learning rapidly and effectively, initially achieving a 500% increase in sales of cameras which has since stabilised to 200%.
The situation that Bowie Castlebank found themselves in was addressed by the implementation of e-learning across the company to allow retail staff to train in-store and without the need for expensive and inflexible trainer time. It was quickly identified that the required training would be best created by subject matter experts working with rapid e-learning tools. Bespoke development to fixed deadlines was particularly necessary.
An effective partnership with Atlantic Link was established whereby training was delivered to subject matter experts, providing guidance in using the e-learning development software, learning styles and e-learning design and finally a “create your first e-learning course” workshop. The training was enormously effective and the courses delivered so far have had no input from any IT experts.
The aim is to produce 15 courses in the first year of which 4 have been created already. The systems also have created a Learning Management System which allows central training staff to control staff training requirements over the entire network of 340 outlets and 1700 staff.
The benefits have been particular stunning. Training Manager Karen Barringer-Hancox says “We conservatively estimate that the four courses we have produced so far would have cost more than £500,000 to produce. We can now deliver training at an estimated saving of £320,000 per annum. There have also been other benefits in terms of lower staff turnover and improved customer satisfaction. However, the direct effect on sales of the sales training has been the most telling contribution. Sales of cameras leapt by 500% when the training was first introduced and even now it has stabilised at a 200% improvement.
Notes for Editors
1. Atlantic Link provides the world's most advanced rapid e-learning tools. Record breaking sales figures and big name clients demonstrate that Atlantic Link's rapid authoring software is revolutionising e-learning production.
Atlantic Link Limited was founded in 2002 by Mike Alcock and Tony Reddington. Having worked in e-learning for many years, Tony and Mike had come to the conclusion that e-learning was too slow and expensive to produce, too complicated for most people to create and almost impossible to maintain.
The aim is to bring e-learning development to ordinary users. With the Atlantic Link software, anyone who can use a computer can create stunning e-learning and unleash the knowledge locked within themselves and their organisations.
Atlantic Link has built up an impressive blue-chip customer base in the UK and overseas, including world-leading brands from the automotive, finance, retail and government sectors. It is also developing an extensive channel partnership network for the provision of e-learning solutions internationally.
