TVG, America’s Horseracing Network, and Hawthorne Race Course announced today that they have entered into a multiyear agreement for Hawthorne’s races to be exclusively featured as part of TVG’s regular network programming. Advance deposit wagering (ADW) services and video streaming for Hawthorne’s races will also be available on TVG’s four wagering platforms including TVG.com, the leading ADW site in the U.S.
Under the agreement, Hawthorne receives priority positioning on TVG Network programming, TVG Spotlight Race placement for the Illinois Derby (GII) and Hawthorne Gold Cup (GII) stakes races, special participation in the TVG Rewards Program and on-air promotion reserved for exclusive television partners of TVG.
“We are pleased to have Hawthorne as our newest exclusive television partner racetrack,” said David Nathanson, General Manager of TVG. “Our broad television distribution in the Chicago area will ensure that both local and international fans alike will conveniently be able to access Hawthorne’s quality racing including the Illinois Derby and the Hawthorne Gold Cup.”
Horseracing has been conducted at Hawthorne in the heart of Chicago since 1891. This year, the historic oval will race more days than any other Thoroughbred track in the Chicago area. The Spring Meet begins today, March 7, and runs through April 28. The Illinois Derby (GII) is the highlight of the Spring Meet and annually features some of the leading three-year-olds in the nation. The Fall Meet begins September 26 and runs through December 31. The highlight of the Fall Meet is the Hawthorne Gold Cup (GII), which is a key prep for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (GI). Additionally, Hawthorne will hold a summer harness racing meet from June 24 to August 7.
“Hawthorne is committed to providing the best product possible to our racing fans and customers,” said Tim Carey, President and General Manager of Hawthorne Race Course. “We recognized that, in the changing horseracing marketplace, TVG has the unique capability to distribute Hawthorne’s races to the broadest audiences possible through television and a variety of technology platforms, and we’re thrilled with the placement we have secured for Hawthorne racing on TVG’s powerful media and technology assets.”
TVG (tvg.com), the official TV and Interactive Wagering partner of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) and a subsidiary of Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc., is the most widely distributed horse racing network in the world.
