The competition is open to psychology and business school students studying industrial and organizational psychology, occupational psychology, organizational behavior, or organizational management. Cognisco will give ten winners each a $1,500 cash prize. The winners’ research will get published on the Cognisco website and an additional $3,000 grand prize will be awarded to the person who gets the most downloads on their research.
Cognisco is promoting Get Published in the US through several social networking, university and association websites, as well as at industry events. Students are also invited to join the dedicated Get Published Facebook group. As an exhibitor at the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) annual conference this April 10-12, Cognisco will be meeting with student members to promote the competition and recruit talent for the newly established Cognisco USA operations.
Recent research by Cognisco reveals that an alarming 23 percent of employees misunderstand at least one crucial aspect of their job. Cognisco is interested in using assessments to measure the cost of incompetence, improve employee performance and mitigate business risk.
The Get Published competition, now running in both the US and the UK, seeks student research on one of the following topic areas:
- Employee understanding and competence in their role.
- The advantages and disadvantages of evaluating employee performance.
- How learning and training can be assessed effectively.
“Our insight into the strong relationship between employee performance and business performance is built on the work of talented psychologists and other experts,” said Mary Clarke, CEO of Cognisco. “We believe it is essential to support and reward the next generation of students interested in workplace issues.”
All entries will be judged by a distinguished committee including Cognisco’s in-house team of organizational psychologists and experts, top university professors, and corporate HR executives. All entries must be received by May 31, 2008 and winners will be announced on June 9, 2008. The winning research will then be published on the Cognisco website. The download period runs from June 10 through July 26, 2008 and the grand prize winner will be announced on July 30, 2008.
