Santa Ana, CA, United States, 02/09/2008 - TVG, America’s Horseracing Network, announced today it will air live coverage of the 2008 winter/spring racing season at Bay Meadows beginning Mon., Feb. 4 on opening day.

TVG’s live programming will include on-site reports from Bay Meadows every Saturday and Sunday throughout the season, which concludes Sunday, May 11.
The 28th running of the $150,000 El Camino Real Derby (GIII), Northern California’s premier Kentucky Derby prep, the $100,000 Bay Meadows Breeders’ Cup Sprint (GIII) and the $125,000 Bay Meadows Breeders’ Cup Handicap will highlight the 70-day meeting. Bay Meadows, opened in 1934, remained opened through World War II and is California’s oldest continuously operating racetrack.
“Thanks to TVG, horseracing fans around the world will once again have a chance to see world-class racing at one of the sport’s most historic venues,” said F. Jack Liebau, president of Bay Meadows.
The El Camino Real Derby, running on Saturday, March 8, is a 1 1/16-mile test for three-year-olds. Past participants in the El Camino Real Derby include Charismatic, the 1999 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, and Tabasco Cat, winner of both the Preakness and Belmont Stakes in 1994.
The Bay Meadows Breeders’ Cup Sprint, a six-furlong dash for three-year-olds and up, will be contested Saturday, March 15. The Bay Meadows Breeders’ Cup Handicap, the longest continually run stake in California, will be contested on Saturday, April 26, at 1 1/16 miles on the Longden turf course.
The winter/spring stakes schedule also features the $100,000 California Turf Sprint, a five-furlong turf race for California-breds on Saturday, April 5, and the $75,000 Bay Meadows Oaks, a 1 1/16-mile race for three-year-old fillies on Saturday, April 12
“Bay Meadows has a special place in the story of American Thoroughbred horseracing,” said Tony Allevato,” TVG senior vice president and executive producer. “This meeting promises to be very special, potentially offering an early look at Triple Crown contenders.”
From February 4 through April 20, racing at Bay Meadows will be conducted Thursday through Monday. Beginning April 23, racing will switch to a Wednesday through Sunday schedule. Post time for daytime racing is 12:45 pm PT. Evening cards will be featured every Friday in April and again on May 9. Post time for Friday night racing is 7:20 pm PT
