The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education announced today its online industrial training courses are now available for immediate enrollment. The five courses, listed in the Skilled Trades and Industrial category, are offered through the Georgia Center in partnership with Gatlin Education Services.

The new industrial training courses at the University of Georgia are aimed at preparing students for a career in heavy industry by providing direction from professionals with extensive work experience in the field. Through the use of interactive multimedia and instructor-supported lessons, the courses teaches students basic procedures and safety guidelines in operating key facilities including a chemical plant, oil refinery, paper mill, power plant and pulp mill.

In each course, students will learn how to safely use facility equipment, analyze production trends, detect potential problems, take corrective actions, and effectively communicate with maintenance technicians and management. The uniquely user-friendly courseware is designed for people who have minimal knowledge of the industry and who may lack expertise in the areas of math, physics and chemistry. All necessary concepts are built into lessons to provide students with a comprehensive training experience.

Available online, each course is self-paced and accessible anywhere with a computer and Internet connection. Upon successful completion, students will receive the certification they need to apply for entry-level work in heavy industry.

“We are happy to supply the industrial training courses to the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education,” said Stephen Gatlin, founder of Fort Worth-based Gatlin Education Services. “Certified heavy industry operators are in great demand as a large portion of the workforce is currently retiring. Completing the courses will give students a foot in the door to a highly-paid and stable career.”

Established in 1989 by Stephen Gatlin, Gatlin Education Services is the largest provider of Web-based, instructor-supported training to community colleges and universities. Gatlin’s online career training courses are open enrollment, allowing interested students to start their desired training immediately. Gatlin’s courses are designed to provide the skills necessary to acquire professional caliber positions for many in-demand occupations.
