Clarian Health now offers its employees a Personalized Eldercare Program through My Health Care Manager. The employee-paid, optional benefit offers employees a professional assessment of their eldercare needs by a licensed registered nurse or social worker, a strategy in which to assist their individual eldercare situations and a plan of action which they can either implement themselves or achieve with ongoing help and support from My Health Care Manager.
Clarian Health is the latest – and largest – employer to join forces with My Health Care Manager to offer the unique program. Since September, the law firms of Barnes & Thornburg, Ice Miller and Hall Render Killian Heath & Lyman, accounting firm Katz Sapper & Miller and Ziegler Cos., with offices in Chicago and New York City, have partnered with My Health Care Manager to offer their employees eldercare benefits.
“With the addition of Clarian Health, we now offer our Personalized Eldercare Program to nearly 16,000 employees nationwide,” said Alan Stanford, CEO of My Health Care Manager. “And we expect to welcome additional employers in the immediate future as the need for eldercare management grows.”
Today, Stanford estimates, up to 20 percent of the American workforce faces responsibilities surrounding the care of aging parents or other adult relatives. As the Baby Boomer population ages struggles to balance work, family and eldercare, many will be facing significant needs and could benefit from My Health Care Manager’s professional help and guidance, he said.
While My Health Care Manager’s services are voluntary benefits paid by employees, they benefit from negotiated rates available to employees of participating firms.
To learn more about the program, employees first are able to talk about their individual situations with My Health Care Manager staff at no cost. After engaging the voluntary benefit, a fact-finding consultation with a health care manager leads to the development of comprehensive report that summarizes key areas of concern and recommends practical actions to address concerns. Then, either the employee can assume the responsibility of enacting My Health Care Manager’s recommendations or work with the company and receive ongoing assistance.
Clarian Health’s Personalized Eldercare Program through My Health Care Manager is available to Clarian’s estimated 13,000 employees, including employees at Methodist Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children, Indiana University Hospital, Clarian North, Clarian West and Clarian Health’s neighborhood health centers throughout central Indiana.
“Our decision to offer My Health Care Manager’s program had a lot to do with the fact that as baby boomers march toward retirement, it is a mathematical certainty that many of them will need to play a major role in caring for their aging parents,” said Brian O’Connor, director of employee benefits at Clarian Health. “As this issue arises, it is important for us to have the ability to offer a voluntary program for Clarian employees to utilize if needed.”
