Star-Studded Super Bowl Event Goes Green

NewswireToday - /newswire/ - Fullerton, CA, United States, 01/25/2008 - Rain Frog Apparel donates bamboo tees for VIP gift bags at Red Carpet Event benefiting nonprofit youth organization.

It isn’t every day that America gets to celebrate the Super Bowl. But when they do, some of them want to do it in style--ecoconscious style, that is.

At least, that’s the case with VIP attendees of this year’s star-studded “One Super Weekend” Super Bowl XLII Red Carpet Event benefiting the nonprofit organization Youth Lifeline America. VIPs attending the Super Bowl weekend event will be treated to gift bags containing, among other things, bamboo T-shirts courtesy of Rain Frog Apparel, an Orange County, California, retailer of upscale, ecocentric bamboo fashions.

By donating items for the Red Carpet event, Rain Frog founder and CEO Karen E. Spaeder aims to spread the word about bamboo as an environmentally friendly resource and present it as an alternative to the traditional cotton tee. “Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of bamboo and other ecoconscious clothing choices,” says Spaeder, who launched Rain Frog in 2007. “Rain Frog is proud to be a part of the Super Bowl event--especially since it will benefit such a worthy cause while also creating awareness of bamboo as an incredibly sustainable resource.”

Bamboo, which grows a full meter or more per day and improves the health of the soil by preventing erosion and consuming excess nitrogen, requires no pesticides--so it’s naturally organic. It takes in nearly five times the amount of greenhouse gases and produces 35 percent more oxygen than an equivalent amount of trees. It’s also made without the use of non-renewable petroleum and without formaldehyde. Plus, Rain Frog Apparel products are panda-safe since they are made with Moso bamboo, a species that is not eaten by pandas.

And although Rain Frog's tees are durable enough for machine washing, “these are some of the softest, most luxurious tees you will ever wear,” adds Spaeder.

Rain Frog Apparel, which also donates at least 1 percent of annual sales to environmental groups through its affiliation with 1% for the Planet, is available online and at Puddleducks boutique in Fullerton, Calf. The company plans to expand in 2008 with the addition of new women’s bamboo fashions in the spring as well as baby and children’s bamboo clothing later in the year. In the interest of true eco-awareness, Rain Frog recently added biodegradable laundry detergent to its product offerings. Says Spaeder, “We want to provide sustainable resources to our clients even after they’ve purchased our clothing.”
