With its roots in motorcycle racing, Daytona's Bike Week has drawn crowds for more than three decades, and a million or more motorcycle enthusiasts from around the globe. Bikes that once raced on the compact sand of the World's Most Famous Beach, now race annually at the Daytona Beach International Speedway. This year, nine days of racing is set for Feb. 29 to March 8.
From professional motorcycle races at the Daytona Beach International Speedway to women's Cole slaw wrestling at Sopotnick's Cabbage Patch, you won't want to miss the lineup of events, including the rare chance to have breakfast with icon custom bike builders Arlen Ness and Russell Mitchell.
Because bikers come to the area to ride in the sun, towns as far away as East Palatka lure riders to beer gardens and smoky BBQ. But in recent years, the focal point of the event has also shifted north to Destination Daytona, a 150-acre complex that is home to the world's largest Harley-Davidson dealership near Interstate-95 in Ormond Beach.
New biker bars have opened near Destination Daytona, including a second location of Daytona Beach's infamous Boot Hill Saloon.
Women's Cole slaw wresting has expanded, too. It is scheduled for Tuesday, as well as Saturday during the Daytona motorcycle rally.
The 36th Annual Rat's Hole Custom Bike Show has expanded to include the First Annual Big Daddy Rat's Party that will include an All-Metrics Custom Bike Show on Thursday; Old School Bike Show with Rock ‘N Roll theme on Friday; and the main attraction show on Saturday.
A new campground has opened in the Ocala National Forest that includes contests and entertainment events, and a great ride location for Bike Week events in both Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach.
