CapAmerica Executive Director John LaCombe announced on Friday that CapAmerica is launching a new Toll Free number for victims of predatory payday lenders, and the lenders current and former employees. “We have seen details from whistleblowers of pure criminality on the part of this industry, particularly companies like Check ‘n Go” LaCombe said in an announcement touting the new toll free service. “We want to provide a safe place for victims to come and receive referrals on resources that might be available to help them end the nightmarish debt trap most are locked in. In addition, we know most employees of these companies had no idea what they were getting themselves into when accepting these jobs, and we want to help these people step out of the shadows and move on with their lives”.
Current industry whistleblowers have detailed horrendous treatment at the hands of the payday lending industry after coming forward, including former DC whistleblowers who have detailed being followed by private detectives and having suffered slander at the hands of this industry and it’s lobbyists. Lacombe added in his talk that “the payday lending industry is the modern day mafia, it’s the gambino crime family out of the darkness and protected by sham laws in certain states throughout the US.”
CapAmerica’s stated objective is to grow grassroots action in states across the country that have passed exemptions to their usury laws, allowing payday lenders to charge triple digit interest rates. “We will fight for as long as it takes to restore financial fairness to all 50 United States, to eliminate the scourge of predatory lending, to seek justice for the victims of this debt trap, and to work to bring those who break laws and lie to legislatures to justice for their crimes” adds LaCombe.

We will work to encourage predatory lenders to change their usurious practices, and provide support to employees of such organizations that wish to come forward and report illegal or unethical activities.
