Apart from traditional samples such as proteins and small molecule compound-based drugs, the ProteOn XPR36 system can screen and characterize hybridomas and hybridoma products (such as antibodies) used as biologic-based medicines. It generates richer data from each experiment, accelerating the understanding of cellular processes and ultimately drug development.
The ProteOn XPR36 system is superior to traditional systems in many ways. For instance, conventional protein interaction analysis often requires the labeling of constituents, which limits the number of interaction partners that can be studied. Traditional methods also demand modifications of participating partners that may affect the functionality of the analysis. The system remedies these problems by eliminating these labels and enabling real-time label-free analysis using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) optical biosensing to provide results.
“Through the use of SPR technology in the ProteOn XPR36 system, extremely low levels of analytes across a broad size range can be identified and analyzed,“ notes Dr. Sellappan. “The system is capable of measuring up to 36 individual molecular interactions simultaneously, which adds greatly to the value of this system.”
The innovative method in which low volumes of sample fluids are dispensed is an integral component of the ProteOn XPR36 system. Apart from the sample management provided by bar-code enabled chips, the system conducts experiments efficiently, supported by pumps that operate in unison, a compartment that holds ample volumes of buffer for high-throughput applications, and a unique degasser that removes unwanted bubbles.
