The spirited southern author, Atlanta's own Darlene Ford Wofford will be interviewed by Deidre Dukes during the 7:00-8:00 am. segment of Good Day Atlanta. Mrs. Wofford will be sharing the events which led to writing her novel based on true events, as well as discussing recovery and dealing with ongoing bouts of depression. They will also be chatting about the upcoming ‘Make ’08 Great!’ event on January 12th, in which she is featured speaker along with two other nationally renowned authors, Carolyn O’Neil and Patrice Dickey. The event is result of a partnership between Wordsmiths Books and the Dekalb Medical Center. The seminar begins at 2:00 in the Women’s Center Auditorium there at Dekalb Medical Center, 2701 North Decatur Rd, Decatur, GA 30033. “An Assignment to Remember” is the first of three novels in Mrs. Wofford’s “Edgewise” series, with “Seven Years ‘Til Sunrise” scheduled for release in late 2008, followed by the third and final installment in 2009-10. The term "edgewise" is used to describe the book's protagonist as a young Atlanta woman whose mind has shut down to block out back-to-back traumatic events, however other memories of her life are blocked, as well. Told through the eyes of the author's alter ego, "An Assignment to Remember" is not as much about the events as it is the inspiring story about triumph over tragedy, her healing progression and the prevailing strength of unconditional love. Jim Cox of the Midwest Book Review describes the novel as, "An inspired tribute to the strength of the human spirit, and of working through a process of recovery to overcome the wounds that life can inflict upon us without warning." Page One Lit literary newsletter reports, "Wofford is a wonderful writer whose personality and charisma is vivid in every word and sentence in her new book, 'Edgewise: An Assignment to Remember.' If the name Darlene Wofford sounds familiar it may be because she stays mighty busy in and around Atlanta and the surrounding cities. Every weekend since June of ’06 Carl, her husband of 40+ years, has accompanied his wife to speaking engagements and book-signings throughout the area. She has been the featured by the larger chains such as Barnes & Noble, Borders, Waldenbooks, and Books-A-Million, as well as independently owned stores such as Wordsmiths Books and Books for Less. Her career in the mortgage finance industry spanned two decades, and now as a certified image consultant she owns Imagize Consulting Services and is London Image Institute's Graduate Division Director. She is an officer for both the Marietta Chapter of Toastmasters International, and the Atlanta Chapter of the AICI (Association of Image Consultants International). Every Saturday morning in 2006 from 10-11:00 am., she co-hosted an hour-long Atlanta radio talk-show called "Your Inner Voice." She has also been interviewed recently regarding her novel on several Atlanta radio stations.
