ETH researchers from the Mathematics Department and Department of Management, Technology and Economics will be invited to join an industry-sponsored program to place Switzerland at the center of global banking and finance.
The ETH Zurich considers the exchange between research, training and practice, and therefore the cooperation with the Swiss Finance Institute, as a great opportunity. The cooperation will focus on areas such as mathematical finance and financial engineering. Mathematical finance concerns basic research in mathematics that have strong applications to the financial sector. The financial engineering activities will involve computational finance and the interface between statistics and finance.
With a faculty already numbering more than 40 professors based at 5 universities, the Swiss Finance Institute is following an ambitious growth mandate from the Federal government and the Swiss financial services industry. The agreement with the ETH will advance this mandate substantially by supporting high impact research in finance and related fields.
All Abroad
The Swiss Finance Institute is in its second year of operation and is already attracting global attention to its research and executive education activities. "We are delighted to include world class ETH researchers in our efforts to increase Switzerland's global standing in the financial services industry," explained Professor Jean-Pierre Danthine, Managing Director of the Swiss Finance Institute.
As a major financial center, Switzerland has a requirement for excellence in research and training in financial fields. The ETH Zurich Department of Mathematics has been committed to satisfying this requirement for many years, especially in the fields of mathematical finance and quantitative risk management.
The Swiss Finance Institute is a private foundation created in 2006 by the banking and the finance community of Switzerland in collaboration with Swiss universities. The Institute aims to advance research activity in finance and to support doctoral research and executive education in the banking and finance industry, as well as organising interfacing activities between research and the financial services industry.
