City Tavern Chef/Proprietor Walter Staib and a production team from hype413, Inc. under the direction of Creative Director Steven Horn returned from Germany on October 4 after filming the first 6 of 26 episodes of his forthcoming television show – World Cuisine of the Black Forest. The show is scheduled to begin airing Sunday, December 9, 2007 on CN8 at 5:30 pm. (Viewers without Comcast Cable can watch via the web at cn8.tv)
This enchanting new show is based on Staib’s best-selling cookbook, Black Forest Cuisine: The Classic Blending of European Flavors. Chef Staib and crew went on a whirlwind tour of Germany’s Black Forest region to capture footage and interviews from some of the greatest epicurean haunts in Europe, such as Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu in Alpirsbach, Markgraf von Baden Wine estate in Durbach, Scheibel Schnaps Distillery and Restaurant Rebstock in Kappelrodeck, Hotel zum Ritter in Heidelberg Restaurant Alte Post in Nagold, Zordel Trout Farms in Eyachtal and the Vogtsbauernhof farm in Gutach, to name a few. Photos of all of these picturesque locations are available upon request.
For the epicurean who is passionate about food, wine and travel, the show provides a tour of this culturally rich region featuring chef Walter Staib as tour guide and Nicole Woodruff as host. Viewers can follow Staib on a culinary journey highlighting his early life as a young chef learning to cook alongside his mother, and see where he honed his skills in some of the finest kitchens in the world. Every episode will feature traditional recipes from different parts of the Black Forest as well as a glimpse of daily life.
Chef Walter Staib is president of Concepts By Staib, Ltd. a global restaurant management and hospitality consulting firm, chef/proprietor of Philadelphia’s City Tavern restaurant and author of City Tavern Cookbook, City Tavern Baking & Dessert Cookbook and Black Forest Cuisine. He is also Culinary Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia, and recently received the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit from German President Dr. Horst Köhler.
