British Publishers Limited recently launched the latest in its series of global eStrategies events at the eChallenges conference in the Hague on October 25th 2007 in its capacity as media partners.

The Roundtable Forum took place in the World Forum Convention Centre and brought together the leading Government and industry decision makers from across Europe to discuss the use of technology-enhanced learning.

The eStrategies Roundtable Forum provided experts from the academic, corporate and government sectors with the opportunity to discuss some of the challenges facing the region and a platform for exploring how new learning technologies should address those concerns. The purpose of the Roundtable was to drive best practice and the sharing of thought leadership in elearning, and to consider what strategies should be followed for inspiring a new generation of e-education. The Roundtable has brought exposure to the region and highlighted the development that is taking place.

Senior representatives from within the Government and Education fields participated in the Roundtable, alongside leading technology and industry experts. Attendees included:
• Serge Ravet, Chief Executive, European Institute for Elearning (EIfEL);
• Will Murray, Director JISC Plagiarism Advisory Service;
• Jonathan Pegum, Director Learning Innovation Centre and Director of Partner Development, Executive Education;
• David Osimo, Joint Research Centre, European Commission, Spain;
• Hans Pronk, Principal Adviser, Kennisnet Foundation;
• Marc Dupuis, Elearning Programme Manager, Leiden University;

Leading international elearning providers sponsored the eStrategies event, showcasing their services and technologies. Sponsors included Blackboard, Smart Technologies, Fronter and Digital Publishing.

Renowned experts discussed some of the hottest topics and trends surrounding technology-enhanced learning in Europe. These included:
• Learning across borders and the internationalization of education;
• Delivering on e-inclusion: the role of technology in promoting lifelong learning, innovation and desirable change;
• Quality and eLearning - How information technology is being used in support of quality in learning;
• Improving education and training in the use of ICT for all citizens and creating a knowledge-based society;
• Classroom Learning and ICT: promoting digital literacy for all;
• The growth of elearning in the higher education context;
• Multimedia, the internet and today’s media: educational challenges and responses;
• Elearning policy and practices: building common infrastructures and approaches across borders to ICT research and development in education.

The Network Manager at The American School of the Hague described the recent eStrategies Forum at the eChallenges conference as “useful for us to help plan future strategies. As a relatively small independent school we can envision, plan and fund measures leading to a genuine learning culture, but even on this one-school scale the ideal isn’t easy to achieve.”

Chris Hull, Managing Director of British Publishers Limited, commented that “I am very pleased with the outcome of the event. It forms part of the growing success of eStrategies globally and reflects our expanding partnerships across the region”.

Following the success of the eChallenges conference, British Publishers Limited is launching the next Elearning Forum to take place in Bahrain on January 22nd 2008, which will look towards the future of elearning in the Middle East and provide a platform for enabling educational institutions and corporates to explore new technologies in the region.
