HunterStone, Inc., leaders in SCORM eLearning and Microsoft related services, announced today that Professor Steve Molyneux has been appointed to the Board of Directors to bring to the company his unrivalled experience at all levels of education and training. Professor Molyneux is one of the leading experts in the use of Information and Communication technology to support Education and Training in the UK. He is an outspoken advocate of technology to support learning, but also challenges some current Government and Industry thinking on how such technologies should be deployed. Whilst an early pioneer in the development of Virtual Learning Environments, he now believes that the way society interacts with technology and the Web must lead us to transform education systems from the late 20th century 'pull' model of eLearning to a newer 'push' model based on personalisation.
Professor Molyneux is widely respected as a key player in eLearning and is one of the UK's leading movers and shakers in the transformation of the UK towards the Knowledge-Economy. In the past he has held a number of Professorial Chairs including; The Microsoft Chair of Advanced Learning Technologies, The IBM Chair of Information & Communication Technologies and the Asymetrix Chair of Multimedia. In 1995 he developed one of the first Virtual Learning Environment (VLE/LMS) in the UK which was from 1999 marketed under the brand Learnwise by Granada Learning. This learning platform was developed as part of 'Broadnet' which was used as a case study in 1996 by the UK Institute for Public Policy Research in the formulation of their 'University for Industry' proposal to Government later re-branded as Learndirect.
In 1996 he co-founded MediaLab UK subsequently renamed Netmedia Education. He has held a number of non-executive Board positions and sees the appointment to a US based globally positioned company as complementary to his long standing position as a Partner with the Advanced Distance Learning Initiative. Between 1997 and 1999 he worked with Government and Industry in evangelising the concept of a National Grid for Learning for which HunterStone is now developing key components. In 1999 he founded, together with Microsoft and ICL, the UK Learning Lab, a not-for profit membership-led organisation, supporting all those involved in the Development, Delivery and Implementation of Learning Technologies in the UK. He joins HunterStone direct from the Learning Lab.
When he accepted the invitation to join the Board the Professor said: "I am particularly pleased to be joining the innovative team at HunterStone. HunterStone's THESIS is a suite of eLearning tools which adheres to the SCORM specifications and integrates with Microsoft Office. This enables a user to author eLearning resources and objects straight from familiar Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and Producer. The THESIS "Learning Object Manager" allows a user to author complete SCORM courses and quizzes for online instruction, using multiple learning objects from different sources. THESIS Librarian "SCORM enables" Microsoft SharePoint to create Learning Object Repositories where subject matter experts can collaborate on course development and also use the tool as a meta-data manager.
THESIS is ADL certified and integrates with SCORM 1.2 and 2004 Learning Management Systems including but not limited to: Angel Learning, Aspen/Docent, BlackBoard, Desire2Learn, DigiLore, DOTS (WebRaven), EKP, Gen21, GeoLearning, IBM Notes LMS, ICS Learning (Inquisiq EX), IntraLearn, Learn.com, LearnKey, LearnFlex (Operitel), Learnwise, Mentor Manager, Moodle, Oracle, Pathlore, Plateau, RedTray, SAP, Southrock, THINQ, TopClass, WebCT, and WestNet Learning. Additionally, THESIS works with Microsoft's SharePoint Learning Kit (SLK).
