In an effort to provide information about education in America The MorningStar Academy opened up the "National Assessment of Educational Progress 2007 State Snapshot Reading Reports" to the public this week.
“The MorningStar Academy is committed to continually researching and reporting on the climate of America’s schools. One of our goals is to stay informed and enlighten the American people of what is actually going on in the world of education. Education has changed a lot in the last ten years and we want to be able to provide parents with up-to-date resources, like the 2007 Reading State Snapshot Reports,” said Mimi Rothschild, CEO of Learning By Grace, Inc.
The "N.A.E.P. 2007 State Snapshot Reading Reports" examines the reading levels of fourth and eighth graders in public schools for each state in America. The reports not only reveal the condition of America’s public school system, but they also shed light on why so many parents are choosing to homeschool their children.
“The reports show a disturbing trend. Public school educators have lowered the bar for students as far as what is proficient and that still doesn’t seem to help. Look at Louisiana, a staggering 42 percent of eighth grade male students performed below the N.A.E.P. basic level. If you’re a parent in 2007, it’s pretty easy to decide to homeschool your children when your local public school fails to teach them how to properly read on the most basic of levels,” said Rothschild.
