Emirates Computers and Nokia today announced their sponsorship to Dr. Clare O’Leary for the Irish Seven Summits Mount Vinson Expedition 2005, which left Ireland and was bound for Mount Vinson in Antarctica. Dr. O’Leary is aiming to become the first Irish woman to complete the Seven Summits Challenge. Mount Vinson (16,067ft) will be the final of the Seven Summits for Pat Falvey, expedition leader, Dr. Clare O’ Leary and other members of the expedition.
“Dr Clare O’ Leary is one of Ireland’s leading female adventurers. She made history in 2004 when she became the first Irish female to climb Mount Everest (29,035 ft) as part of the Irish Wyeth Everest Expedition. Less than hundred women have successfully climbed Everest to date,” says Hani Harik, President of Emirates Computers.
“Dr. O’Leary is presently on course to complete the seven summits challenge. Only fourteen women worldwide have completed this feat to date. She has already completed five of these peaks and will undertake the remaining two in November and December of this year, finishing on the most remote and coldest place on earth by climbing Mount Vinson on the Antarctic continent,” Hani adds.
The adventure of climbing the seven summits fires people's imagination all around the world. It is a desire to stand on the highest point on each of the seven continents. The drive, the vision and the determination of those who try, grasps the enthusiasm of mountaineers and armchair travellers alike.
Dr. O’Leary has gained a huge following throughout the world and has become an important role model for children and adults in all walks of life. Joining her on this expedition will be Pat Falvey, the world renowned Irish adventurer/explorer, expedition leader and motivational speaker who has an impressive record of over 40 successful high altitude expeditions. The third member of the Mount Vinson expedition will be John Dowd, a member of Kerry Mountain Rescue with an impressive mountaineering history. The team will also be accompanied by Frederick T. Bear, who famously summitted Everest in 2004. Freddie will document his travels by means of a daily web diary (with images), stimulating, enthusing and educating hundreds of thousands of children all over the world.
Dr. O’Leary’s Mt Vinson expedition, sponsored by Emirate Computers and Nokia (UAE), is a first in promoting a cultural link between the UAE and Ireland. The well known Nokia logo ‘connecting people’ applies not just to connection through telecommunications but also to connections through sport, adventure and success. Emirate Computer’s apt logo ‘Professionals at work’ can certainly be applied to these proud ambassadors of Irish adventure.
