Palo Alto, CA, United States, 2007/10/30 - Based on its recent analysis of Ultra Wideband (UWB) technologies for the defense and surveillance markets, Frost & Sullivan today announced Time Domain Corporation (TDC) is the recipient of the 2007 North American Award for Technology Innovation.
Frost & Sullivan is recognizing TDCís UWB-based PulsONģ platform for its potential to enable an entirely new range of wireless applications, and its ability to enhance the performance of existing wireless applications, benefiting the consumer markets at large.
"TDC flagship PulsON UWB technology has the capability of fusing radar, positioning, and wireless communications into a single chipset," says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Krishnakumar Srinivasan. "Usage of an UWB spectrum and a variety of transmission reception and modulation techniques characterize the evolution of PulsON."
Ultra short duration pulses yield UWB signals, extreme low power, excellent immunity to interference from other radio systems and high bandwidth, multi-channel performance and co-existence with existing spectrum users are some of the key features of PulsON technology.
TDC continuously enhances the performance of its technology. For example, the PulsON 210 developed several years ago, has been miniaturized and was launched successfully as an advanced PulsON 400 UWB chip for surveillance and security applications.
TDC serves the demands of the military for unattended ground sensors as well as for border fences and critical infrastructure primitive fencing to detect and track intruders who try to cross borders and boundaries. The high fidelity and coherent nature of TDCís UWB technology not only helps identify targets, but classifies them.
The company is also developing its UWB technology for applications outside the surveillance sector. Its newest product line, +PLUS, is a precision location UWB Real-Time Location System (RTLS) that enables enterprises to accurately locate people and assets in real time. Initially targeted for healthcare applications, TDCís PLUS system locates and documents interactions between staff and patients as well as improves utilization of equipment and other assets.
"Consistently focused on refining its technologies, TDC has opened new UWB applications in both defense and commercial markets," notes Srinivasan. "Further, it has filed and obtained a number of patents for systems based on UWB technology, which is an endorsement to the development potential of the company."
Today, TDC has 143 patents granted or filed worldwide including 93 U.S. patents issued and 27 U.S. patents pending. The companyís commitment to advance its technology in the industrial space is one of the primary reasons for the current state of its innovative UWB development.
Frost & Sullivan is honoring TDC with the 2007 North American Technology Innovation Award for developing a strong UWB technology platform; adopting the right strategies to explore its capabilities; effectively expanding applications; and for a clear perspective on how to apply its technology to serve the future industrial market needs.
Each year Frost & Sullivan presents the North American Technology Innovation Award to the company (or individual) that has carried out new research resulting in innovation(s) that have or are expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change, and competitive posture. This award recognizes the quality and depth of a companyís research and development program as well as the vision and risk-taking that enabled it to undertake such an endeavor.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
