While lost productivity due to high care-giving costs U.S. businesses more than $33 billion annually, an Indianapolis firm now offers companies – and their employees – a solution.
Fifteen to 25 percent of the workforce currently cares for older or disabled loved ones, according to the MetLife Mature Market Institute. And by 2010, the percentage is expected to double.
What does that mean for the workforce? According to the same group, it’s currently costing U.S. businesses more than $33 billion annually in lost productivity.
In response to this growing concern, Indianapolis-based My Health Care Manager has recently launched an innovative employer program. To date, five businesses have enlisted its services, providing their cumulative 1,900 employees with the option to engage an appointed health care manager who can address concerns about their elder charges.
Recently, law firms Barnes & Thornburg, Ice Miller and Hall Render Killian Heath & Lyman, accounting firm Katz Sapper & Miller and the Indianapolis office of Publicis retained My Health Care Manager. Launched in 2005 as an independent and objective geriatric care manager by Indianapolis entrepreneur Alan Stanford, the company has navigated more than 200 families through the complexities of eldercare.
“Family dynamics, location and required care is a very complex equation,” Stanford said. “We are bringing a level of expertise and skill to that equation with a one-on-one relationship between a caregiver and a health care manager.” A recent relationship with a national nursing service enables My Health Care Manager to assist elder adults throughout the country.
While My Health Care Manager’s services are privately paid by the employee, a group rate is passed along to employees of participating firms. Charges for an initial call are waived, but subsequent calls and services incur a fee.
My Health Care Manager LLC is a caring and objective source of assistance for older adults and their families on the complex issues and options of aging. Based in Indianapolis and started in 2005, the company provides services through area, national and employer programs.
