The two simulators Boeing 777-300 ER and Airbus 340/330 were supplied to Jet Airways by CAE, Inc., Canada, an established world leader in providing simulation and training solutions to commercial airlines
Jet Airways has also received DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) certification to carry out training on Boeing 777 – 300 ER and an Airbus 340 / 330 simulators.
Jet Airways Simulator Training Centre in Mumbai, presently has 4 Full Flight Simulators (FFS), and besides these, the airline has one FTD (Flight Training Device), and one Multi Functional Training Device (MFTD), and two Integrated Procedure Trainers (IPT).
The full- flight simulator replicates in every detail the cockpit of the aircraft that it simulates. It also reproduces, with great accuracy and realism, the visual environment the aircraft appears to be flying in, including clouds, thunderstorms, and the landing approaches of airports around the world.
Each simulator also recreates operational emergency situations the cockpit crew has to be trained for. The use of the simulator as a training device greatly reduces the cost of training, which otherwise would have to be incurred on the actual aircraft.
All our simulators are level D certified zero flight time devices which allow us to transition a pilot from simulator training directly to line training, thereby eliminating the need for flying training on an actual airplane which was the earlier practice. The simulators are capable of carrying out initial, upgrade, recurrent and specialized training such as low visibility and airport qualification for critical airports such as Leh and Kathmandu. In the financial year 2006-2007 we trained 107 first officers and 54 Captains on our B737 simulators alone. This year we expect to carry out approximately 10000 hrs of training on the B737 simulators and 5000 hrs each on the A330 and B777 simulators.
Jet Airways has ordered 10 new Boeing 777 – 300 ERs, of which six have been already delivered and are operating its twice-daily services on the Mumbai – London route and a daily service on the Mumbai- Brussels - New York (Newark) route. Jet Airways has exercised the option for acquiring 3 additional Boeing 777 – 300 ER’s for delivery during the year 2009. Also on order are 10 Airbus 330-200s, out of which four have already been delivered and operating on the India – London and Delhi – Toronto routes.
Jet Airways Chief Executive Officer Mr. Wolfgang Prock– Schauer said “As a part of our expansion plans, and deliveries of Boeing 777 – 300 ER and Airbus 330 wide body aircraft into our fleet, these new simulators will enable us to provide high quality pilot training”.
Mr. Prock – Schauer further added: “CAE offers the highest quality in its simulators combined with the ability to meet our aggressive delivery schedule. It has been proved that CAE is the right choice as our simulation equipment provider.”
