Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom, 2007/10/09 - Tunnel Routing brings improved speeds, performance and reliability.
AscenVision, the technology leader in WAN traffic management solutions, has launched its patented technology ‘Tunnel Routing’ - intelligent VPN (Virtual Private Network) optimization technology and integrated it into its flagship product, AscenLink. Tunnel Routing aggregates multiple WAN links into a single virtual tunnel and addresses the problem of VPN load balancing and fault tolerance in a network with dynamic IP addresses. Tunnel routing brings LAN-like Intranet access to improve WAN speeds, maximize performance of mission critical applications and strengthen the VPN reliability - achieved without additional expenses on WAN link upgrades.
With rapid increase of the globalization and outsourcing trends, more and more enterprises have set up subsidiaries where VPN is used as the primary method for subsidiary to headquarters communication. Ordinary VPN devices only allow a VPN tunnel to be established on a single WAN link, but with nett effect of bandwidth limitation, and potential risks of single point of failure. In order for business to scale up, an upgraded WAN link is the only viable solution, but the issue of single point of failure still remains unresolved. AscenLink’s tunnel routing feature, however, runs a virtual tunnel network across multiple WAN links from different ISPs to maximally expand VPN capacity and deliver traffic through all available WAN links with load balancing and fault tolerance to achieve high levels of availability and reliability.
AscenLink Tunnel Routing mechanism incorporates multiple patented technologies that address the complexity of VPN trunking deployments for multiple sites with diverse WAN connectivity. An intelligent routing algorithm is designed to allow support of trunking of multiple and disparate WAN links with varying line quality. This is particularly important for cases of cross-boundary deployments where connection between well-developed regions and third world countries are necessary.
Another patented technology in the Tunnel Routing function is the support for dynamic IP in a tunnel deployment - a unique feature of high demands particularly for regions with shortage of IP addresses. The support for dynamic IP enables customers to deploy Tunnel Routing across headquarters and multiple branch offices with only one fixed IP in one of the headquarters’ WAN links, enabling customers to choose less costly dynamic IP broadband connections for branch offices to lower the total cost of deployment.
There’s no greater example of every fraction of a second counting, than in one of Europe’s prominent Formula One racing teams who have just deployed ‘Tunnel Routing’ and are using it for watertight communications between the pit lane and the headquarters to enable faster and more reliable real-time telemetric data communication. “If AscenLink couldn’t satisfy our requirements, I don’t know who else can provide a right solution for us,” said the CTO of the F1 team.
On a global basis, AscenLink effectively scales; Platform is the fourth largest software firm in Canada and a global leader in Grid Computing with twenty-six branch offices throughout the world, including two R&D sites in China. The company uses the AscenLink Tunnel Routing solution to establish a virtual secure tunnel across multiple WAN links based on the existing corporate Intranet and take full advantage of every WAN link in all of the participating sites. The end result is much improved data synchronization performance and reliability, while still maintaining secure Intranet communication via the public Internet.
Another TunnelRouting customer, Nexion, is the leading video transmission service provider responsible for video content transmission for more than two hundred TV stations in Japan. AscenLink Tunnel Routing solution is used to trunk multiple Fibre WAN links to enable faster and more reliable transmission of High Definition TV signals from the Nexion network operating center to multiple TV stations. The large requirements of real-time video data transmission validates AscenLink’s Tunnel Routing algorithm in achieving maximum aggregated capacity of multiple WAN links in a very cost effective manner outside of the corporate VPN network deployment.
“We believe that the success of Tunnel Routing is just the beginning.”, said Dr. Kuo, CEO of AscenVision. “The technical innovations such as support Dynamic IP and TR through NAT, combined with a wide range of models in the product line, not only will revolutionize the Intranet connectivity in the corporate world, but also enable new market frontiers. The case of TR deployments to combine multiple 3G data links for high speed video transmission for mobile applications is just one of the examples, and the opportunity is limited only by our imagination”.
