Drollerie Press is another of 100s of upstart small presses that appear overnight on the Internet. What makes Drollerie unique is the artistic sensibility and drive of its publisher, Deena Fisher. Fisher, who holds strong opinions on digital rights management ("it shouldn't be so intrusive that the buyer feels accused of theft"), public library support, electronic publishing, print publishing, and what makes a good story, has a background in business and marketing, but her M.A.--and her heart--is in fiction.
There are no slouches on Drollerie's editorial staff either. Amy Garvey, a published author in her own right, serves as Executive Editor and focuses mainly on their Mythic Fiction line, while Darin Bradley, who holds a PhD in poetics, focuses on the Poetry and Literary Fiction imprint. Only months old, Drollerie has a solid stable of authors too, including Deborah Grabien, San Francisco resident, musician, and prolific mystery writer.
Grabien's work has received glowing reviews in Library Journal, Kirkus, Booklist, Publisher's Weekly, Denver Post, Boston Globe, and other leading publications. Her standalone supernatural thriller, Still Life with Devils (ISBN 978-0979808104), fits in well with Drollerie's focus on myth, fairy tale, and legend. The novel, which Grabien describes as "a story as much about family and relationships as it is about a serial killer," is scheduled for release in December. Drollerie plans multiple release events in Cleveland, Ohio to celebrate, including a champagne reception at an art gallery and an author talk at a local library.
