Wirefly.com, an online leader in one-stop comparison shopping for cell phones and wireless phone plans, today announced the launch of Wirefly.org, an initiative to let consumers trade in their old cell phone or iPod devices for cash, or donate the value of their trade-in towards a charity of their choice. Some of the charities and organizations that Wirefly supports are the Lance Armstrong Livestrong Foundation, Red Cross, ASPCA, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and Fisher House, helping America’s military families.
Developed in coordination with cell phone trade-in solutions leader Flipswap, Wirefly launched Wirefly.org to promote the safe recycling and reuse of old cell phones in a manner that benefits consumers, the environment and charitable organizations. The average American replaces their cell phone every 18 months leaving millions of unused cell phones in America today that have outlived their purpose.

As opposed to other cell phone recycling programs that tout large proceeds to charitable endeavors but provide only small percentages of trade-in values, the new Wirefly trade-in program will provide the customer’s chosen charity the entire dollar amount as indicated on the website. Current popular trade-in values include the Palm Treo 650 at $59.00, the Motorola KRZR at $73.00 and the LG Chocolate at $75.00.

Wirefly does not handle the collection and recycling of the used cell phones and does not buy back used cell phones for the purpose of resale in any way.
