Dr. Rob Burkham offers insights about how therapy works (and sometimes doesn’t work) drawn from his thirty years of experience. Visitors to the site can click on, “Ask Dr. B”, type in a question, and have Dr. Burkham’s answer posted on the site. They can also receive confidential email counseling with Dr. Burkham and order copies of his book, The Therapy Triangle: Empowering You with the Knowledge to Heal (Right Mind Publishing, 2005).
“Every year, more than 10 million Americans begin mental health counseling,” Dr. Burkham writes, “but few have any solid information about how therapy can make a positive difference in their lives. Because not all therapists are highly skilled and some are even destructive, clients need a clear understanding of how therapy works so they don’t spend months or even years in unproductive counseling.”
Because therapy is expensive and its use is being increasingly rationed by managed care, Dr. Burkham believes that an informed and empowered client will benefit more from the limited number of sessions available to them.
