Rosetta Solutions, Inc., a leading automated digital publishing service provider offering simplified manuscript-to-market services, today announced that it raised $1.5 million of its $2.5 million Series A Financing. The financing round was led by an undisclosed group of investors. Rosetta Solutions will use the funds for expanded customer piloting, sales and marketing, and product development.
“Our strategy is to power multi-format publishing of print and electronic document solutions that are entirely driven by real customer needs and input,” said Rosetta Solutions’ president Ted Treanor. “We are passionate about producing high-quality content and fortunate to have leading publishers not only using our service, but also actively involved in our ongoing product development. This financing further validates our market approach and will help scale our business to collaborate with thousands of publishers, companies, governments, and educational institutions.”
Rosetta Solutions employs a powerful content authoring, editing and production system, the patent-pending RosettaMachine™, a software and workflow publishing system that facilitates team collaboration, proofing, and editorial approval process. The company’s system utilizes XML technology to future-proof content for re-purposing, and can be delivered on-demand, from any platform, to any platform (CD/DVD, on the Web, or for print). Rosetta Solutions can manage the publishing process, even when content is updated on a regular basis, issuing subscription updates, updating websites, and creating new editions as required, reducing production time and expenses, eliminating many distribution costs, and speeding time-to-market.
Industry analysts acknowledge that the multi-channel delivery and XML-based publishing are the most significant market and technology evolution since the invention of the printing press. Growing interests in multi-format publishing and print on demand (POD), coupled with increased costs and intensified competition, is driving the expansion, technology, and investments in digital publishing. Organizations are experiencing increasing demands for more digital formats, including multimedia, as their publishing costs and complexities keep going up. According to some industry analysts, the digital delivery of custom-printed books, textbooks, eBooks, and POD will account for a significant percent of the industry’s multi-billion revenues in 2005.
“Rosetta Solutions has worked with highly respectable publishers, and can now significantly enlarge their customer piloting with this round,” said Dave Howell, chairman for Rosetta Solutions and founder of the publishing division of Wizards of the Coast. “The company has a great management team and advisors, a growing market segment in an established large industry, early customer validation, and a strong growth plan, just what investors want to see.”
With plans to expand Rosetta’s customer base to over 100 publishers in 2006, more than 15 reputable companies like DAW Books/Penguin Putnam, Hard Shell Word Factory, and Dan Poynter/Para Publishing have been working with the company since 2003. Rosetta is an Adobe® Developer Partner, as well as having technology, reseller, and distribution agreements with Microsoft, Amazon.com’s Mobipocket and Palm Digital Media, among others.
