Red Bull Air Race World Series Calendar confirmed dates for a stop in the city of Porto, Portugal. The north capital of the country will host the event which includes qualifying races on the 31st of August and final races the next day. The races will be held over the Douro River, and one of the best views is from the ARTEH® Hotel, Pestana Porto, one of the few hotels along the river bank.
After Abu Dahbi, Rio de Janeiro, Monument Valley, London, Budapeste and prior to San Diego, Acapulco and Perth, Red Bull Air Races will travel the Portuguese clouds, over the city of Porto.
The world’s best and most highly skilled professional pilots will fly a timed sequence, designed by Air Gates, in the fastest and most agile aircraft and along a spectacular location.
Other highlights include the High Flyer’s Lounge which will be the premium hospitality area of the event, exclusive to special guests, sponsors and the Red Bull Air Race business community. The red carpet will be rolled out for outstanding service, a privileged view of the race, entertainment and other High Flyer perks. More surprises are yet to be determined by the organizing entity.
About Red Bull Air Race
From a vision in 2001, one of the most exciting Red Bull events was born, the Red Bull Air Race. The vision was to combine flying with one of the most thrilling elements of motor racing and from that, the idea became races in the sky.
The goal was to create an aviation competition that was independent, innovative, dedicated to speed, precision and skill and characterized by suspense.
And now we have it, a race where highly skilled pilots fly alone, and support up to 10G forces, while flying as quickly and precisely as possible to make the best time and receive no penalties which occurs if any one touches or fly’s over the Air Gates that make the slalom circuit.
The first Red Bull Air Race took place in 2003, and 2005 marked the beginning of the World Series. This year, the race will fly over 12 cities from all over the world and Porto is one of them.

By summer 2001 there were six fixed bridges over the Douro River at Oporto, within less than a 10km stretch of the river. In location sequence, starting upstream, the first to be encountered is the Freixo Bridge, which is not visible from the Ribeira, Oporto's central river-front, as the river bends to the south just east of the city-centre.
Following are the two contrasting railway bridges of S. João and Dona Maria Pia, followed by the new concrete road bridge. The sequence is completed by the majestic double span of the D.Luís Bridge and, finally, by the elegant arch of the Arrábida road-crossing.
Part of a seventh bridge survives, for just downstream of the D. Luís are the partial remains of the columns which supported the Ponte Pensil, the slender suspension bridge which preceded the 1866 structure.
