Singapore, Singapore, 2007/08/02 - Next-generation network (NGN) - The summit will be held in Singapore, from Aug 28-29, 2007, with the support of Nokia-Siemens Networks, BT, Datacraft, ECI Telecom, IBM, Aspect, F5, Wireless World, Voice & Data and Business Today.
Next-generation network has come a long way since it’s introduction a decade ago. In recent years, it has become apparent that fixed-line operators view NGN as the key to their future.
Carriers and service providers are seeking new revenue streams through converged networks that bring together wireless, wireline and IP networks which will have the ability to offer sophisticated combinations of voice and data transmissions. Convergence is also sought in many areas of network design as part of the effort to reduce costs and create innovative services and applications.
“The first chapter of NGN (NGN 1.0) focused a lot on voice in an attempt to re-invent the PSTN (public switched telephone network),” says Frost & Sullivan Director of Telecommunications Sin Siew Teyew. “As it evolves, the second chapter of NGN, also known as NGN 2.0, emulates the concept of Web 2.0, positioning the network as a platform for convergence and redefining lifestyle services to form the ultimate DNA for enhanced user experience.”
“NGN 2.0 is not only about revamping the network layer alone, but instead, transforming the entire value chain of the service providers’ environment, focusing on services and the three-dimensional business aspects of technology, people and processes,” states Teyew. “This beckons a fundamental change in the business models traditionally adopted as service providers move away from being mere passive pipe providers.”
Network operators are slowly beginning to roll out all-IP next-generation networks. The move to an IP-based infrastructure is a natural evolution for fixed network operators as broadband services, including VoIP, migrate from PSTN onto IP networks. The adoption of an all-IP network allows operators to offer a new range of data services within the next-generation service delivery platform.
Frost & Sullivan’s exclusive Executive MindXchange Summit, Next Generation Networks Asia 2007, will feature keynote insights, best practices, case studies and panel discussions addressing the key strategies and innovative solutions adopted by service providers. The summit is designed for CEOs, CTOs, CIOs, network planners, directors and managers involved in driving strategic, tactical and operational initiatives for NGN transformation.
