Reducing the costs of electricity generated by concentrated solar power to make it competitive with energy provided by fossil fuels is high on the industry’s agenda. So what are the major roadblocks to CSP cost reduction?

Alfonso Targhetta and Miguel Domingo, from the Consortium Cobra-SENER believe that cost reduction will be achieved by scaling up projects, using thermal storage, and increasing efficiency of receivers and mirrors. “Governments have the obligation to support these projects as they are a cornerstone to overcome the difference between the real cost of a plant and the "feasible" cost. It needs to be shortened step by step” Mr Targhetta adds.
