Today, Versatile Records announced the first-of-its-kind talent competition to crown seven unsigned artists as “America’s Original” winners. Contestants will submit their original music to compete in one of seven genres: Country, Jazz, Hip-Hop/Rap, Latin, Pop, R&B and Rock/Alternative. Revenue shares will be awarded to all competing artists during the competition. Grand prize winners will be selected from each genre and awarded a recording contract plus they’ll win a music video directed by top music video directors, for their winning single. “We’re excited about this unique platform, which creates a bridge for unsigned artists to showcase their musical talent to the world through our online distribution network. Our product branding strategy also provides corporations with an innovative channel to introduce their product and services to a targeted consumer-base, America’s voters,” states Carl Ferrell, Versatile Records CEO.
Contestants will be voted on by the voting public via the competition’s website. Throughout the duration of the contest, contestants will have the opportunity to earn revenue with each download of their song and product purchase. Online voters will automatically be entered to win cash and prizes with each vote.
Verizon Wireless has partnered with Versatile Records and “America’s Original” to bring the competition to their mobile content subscribers. The semifinal and final rounds will be nationally broadcast, five days a week, showcasing different genres daily. Additionally, the Latin genre will be televised on national media outlets that specifically target Latin viewers.
Summary of the contest terms includes:
• Entry fee- $35 non-refundable;
• Competition genres Country, Jazz, Hip-Hop/Rap, Latin, Pop, R&B and Rock/Alternative;
• Celebrity judges/guests will participate during semi and final rounds;
• Deadline for entries for Round One – Friday, August 31, 2007, 7 PM EST;
• Competition ends in June 2008;
• Grand Prizes - 7 winners, one from each genre will win a recording contract and a music video.
