ARTEH® - Hotels and Resorts has penetrated yet another market. The Independent Hotel Chain is proud to present The Dylan Amsterdam, the first Dutch Hotel to be represented by the brand in Holland.
The Dylan Amsterdam, formally known as Blakes, is a harmonious combination of the old, the new and the Stylish, emphasizing Dark Woods and Eastern Décor and Cuisine. It offers 41 rooms, 8 of which are suites with a privileged view over the Zen Garden, the Hotel’s Courtyard or the Canal.
The Hotel stands exactly where the Duytsche Academie once stood. A 17th Century Theater that despite the churches disapproval and objections towards the immoral character, survived by becoming an asset to the community from greatly contributing to the city’s orphanage.
20 years into existence, in 1632, the facade of the Theater took a turn, and inspired by Classical Italian Architecture, Architect Jacob van Campen built a Stone Structure which was finely finished in 1637. The opening was celebrated in January, with the play “Gijsbrecht van Aemstel”, created by Holland’s greatest Poet Joost van den Vondel.
The play was such a success that from then on it became tradition and is still preformed every January until this date. As it became a tradition, over the years many National and International Companies performed the same play, and through time other great writers like Shakespeare, Molière, Voltaire and Corneille, showed their work as well.
The Theater also had its own orchestra, which was Conducted by António Vivaldi himself in 1737 to celebrate the Theater’s 100th Anniversary.
Having such amazing and gifted writers get their plays performed at the Theater, granted the visit of many Celebrities, amongst which the Prince of Orange, the King of Poland, the Tsar of Russia, the Elector of Brandenburg, Cosimo di Medici and Painters Rembrandt and Jan Steen, amongst others.
Today, the Hotel’s guest can breathe all this History and see traces of a Worn Staircase and Rustic Brick Wall that once was part of the Theater, as well as appreciate the Design Expertise of Anouska Hemple.
Anouska is the Magic Wand behind the décor, who has perfectly combined the History that fills the air, with Luxurious and Stylish details.
Each of the 41 rooms is individually decorated, offering a Unique Vibe and view either of the Canal, the Zen Garden or the Courtyard. As for the sizes, spaces go from 14 to 65 m2, ranging from a Regular Room, to a Duplex or Suite, and, depending on the choice, the Color Schemes vary from Green to Beige, Rust Brown to Navy, Red to White, Cream to Black and Gold to Gray.
The rooms fill the eyes, while the The Dylan Restaurant satisfies the most Demanding Tastes and 24 hours a day for the Hotel’s guests. The Gourmet Selection offers International Dishes, which combine French Tradition with North African Modern Influences.
Dennis Kuipers is responsible for the French and African Blend, as he is The Dylan Restaurant’s Executive Chef. All dishes prepared in his kitchen are a Crystal Clear Reflection of his Studies, Traveling and Experience. His first Diploma was achieved at the Hotel/Restaurant Branch Institution in Hygiene and Kitchen Management, having worked with many Renowned Chefs such as Michelin Star Chef Otto Nijenhuis and Jan Hekkelman. At this time, he also took the opportunity to gain more experience during an Exchange Program to Korea and Switzerland.
Once he completed his education, Chef Dennis Kuipers stared cooking at the Amstel Intercontinental Hotel, supervised by Michelin Star Chef Robert Kranenborg. From then on, he worked as Michelin Star Chef Constant Fonk’s Sous Chef in Hoorn, and for a couple of months in Paris with Alain Senders at 3 Michelin Star Restaurant Lucas Carton.
By 2003, Dennis Kuipers became the Youngest Chef to become a member of the Guild of Master Chefs. This is the highest possible recognition for a Dutch Chef and is obtained by invitation only after a thorough and very demanding Provo.
2006 brought the talented Chef do The Dylan Restaurant, where he cooks till the date offering Surprising Tastes, especially in autumn which is his favorite season, in a sophisticated and Intimate Atmosphere, with the Original Ovens of the Old Bakery and a View of the Zen Garden.
The restaurant is also an excellent choice for Meetings, Product Presentation, and other Events that take up to 60 people. For larger groups, up to 150 people, the Hotel suggests one of the other Event Facilities, a stunning Black and White Décor overlooking the Zen Garden, or 4 surprising different options for other occasions.
