Spanish translation and business solutions company Affinity Spanish today announced it has been awarded a Spanish translation project from the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE). Over the course of the project Affinity Spanish will translate the 120-page NEFE High School Financial Planning Program Student Guide from English to Spanish, work to be funded by the Credit Union National Association, Inc. (CUNA). The Spanish language version of the Student Guide will support NEFE’s goal of greater reach within the large US Hispanic audience. Today 1 in 7 people in the US are considered Hispanic, and the ratio is expected to increase to 1 in 6 over the next several years.
The High School Financial Planning Program, which has reached over five million students in all 50 states since its inception in 1984, is a seven-unit curriculum that teaches the basics of money management to young people at a time when they are developing habits and attitudes about money that will influence them for the rest of their lives. The seven units of the program are: Your Financial Plan: Where It All Begins; Budgeting: Making the Most of Your Money; Investing: Making Money Work for You; Good Debt, Bad Debt: Using Credit Wisely; Your Money: Keeping It Safe and Secure; Insurance: Protecting What You Have; and Your Career: Doing What Matters Most. This practical and non-commercial program is available at no cost to all high schools throughout the country.
According to Affinity Spanish director Ron McCoy, “We couldn’t be more pleased to have been selected by NEFE to support this important project. It’s a great program that the NEFE people have developed, and we look forward to helping make it accessible to Spanish speaking young people nationwide.” Affinity Spanish will adhere to a three-tiered process in translating the guide. The initial translation will be performed and then two phases of review will be conducted to ensure an accurate and culturally correct translation. All translators working on the project are native Spanish speaking language specialists with many years of professional translation experience.
